Kia ora koutou
We hope you’re having a great start to term two.
Variations (VTEs) for Support Staff and Kaiārahi i te Reo and Therapists
These variations include an increase in pay and mileage rates for all employees covered by the CA and corresponding IEA.

What we need you to do

Foreign Language Assistants’ Individual Employment Agreement – changes
The new Foreign Language Assistants’ Individual Employment Agreement (IEA) includes increased pay rates and new termination pay rules.
Increase to pay rates
There is an increase to salary rates from 25 March 2026, the effective date of the IEA. For pay rate details, see part 6 of the agreement.
New termination pay rules
When an employee’s job is terminated, they will receive a termination payment of 8% of their gross earnings.
Implementation
Employees’ payslips will show the new pay rate in PP02 (pay day 28 April 2026). Schools will see the new award code (FLA26) in the SUE report.
Reminder – former employees under the Community Education Collective Agreement
We’ve been asked to remind schools to forward information to former employees under the Community Education Collective Agreement (CECA).
Former employees are now included in the Administration Staff Pay Equity Claim (PEC) and may be eligible for backpay and increments for former jobs from 20 August 2021. The Ministry sent an email last year (18 December 2025) asking schools to forward an attached letter to former employees. Please forward this letter, if you haven’t already done so.
Eligibility
Employees may be eligible for backpay if they:
- were on designation codes S90, S91, S94, S95, S27, S29, S30, and
- signed the CECA or the corresponding Individual Employment Agreement (IEA) when they were employed.
For more information, see the Ministry’s Pay equity for former employees page.
EdPay survey – help us plan our work!
There’s a short survey available on EdPay’s News and Updates page from 28 April to 8 May.
It’s a quick question asking you to rank potential EdPay enhancements. Your input will help shape what we improve next.
