Payroll update 15 April 2026

News for School Payroll Staff

Kia ora koutou

We hope your school or kura had a good first term and that you’re enjoying the term break.

SUE adjustments cut-off at 12pm instead of 5pm

Due to Anzac Day, the cut-off for sending us SUE adjustments for this pay period will move to 12pm (instead of 5pm) Friday 24 April. We will post a banner on EdPay to remind you next week.

Scheduled maintenance outage: EdPay will be unavailable from 8am Saturday 18 April to 5pm Sunday 19 April

In December, a network issue impacted schools’ access to EdPay. To make sure the pay ran smoothly over the term break, we switched EdPay over to our backup datacentre.

This weekend we will switch EdPay back to its primary datacentre location. We’ve scheduled the switchback outside school hours, but we know that sometimes you need to work during weekends so please make a note of these dates.

EdPay will be unavailable from 8am Saturday 18 April to 5pm Sunday 19 April.

Community Education Collective Agreement changes – phase two

The new Community Education Collective Agreement (CECA) included an increase to pay rates, changes to some allowances and a new parental care allowance. We made these changes in pay period 24 (see the payroll update 4 February 2026).

In phase two of CECA changes, we are implementing the backpay of the Pay Equity component of the agreement. Some employees are now included in the Administration Staff Pay Equity Claim (PEC) and are eligible for backpay and increments for current and former jobs from 20 August 2021. This will not include former employees at this stage (more details below).

Key dates

  • The new collective agreement is effective from 28 November 2025.
  • For employees who are included in the PEC, payslips from 28 April 2026 (pay day PP02) will show backpay across current and former jobs from 20 August 2021.

Eligibility

Employees are eligible for the phase two backpay if they:

  • are on designation codes S90, S91, S94, S95, S27, S29, S30, and
  • signed the CECA or the corresponding Individual Employment Agreement (IEA) on or after 28 November 2025.

Exceptions

These employees are not eligible:

  • Teaching Coordinators, and
  • Non-teaching Coordinators Level 2.

Salary loading, holiday pay and termination pay

We will review and recalculate salary loading allowances (SALLO) and holiday and termination pay. Many employees won’t be eligible due to holding the CAS8 allowance. Some employees will receive a new SALLO allowance if their new PEC rates are lower than their previous rates.

Back dated increments

Eligible employees could receive up to five back-dated increments.

Parental payment

Employees who are included in the PEC will also be eligible for a new allowance for parental care from 4 July 2022, if applicable. This also applies to Non-teaching Coordinators, including Level 2.

Former employees

We will process payments to former employees in batches in later pay periods.

Principal mentor – new allowance starts in term two

The principal mentor allowance is available from the start of term two 2026 and is $5,000 per annum. If the principal at your school has been selected as a mentor, please complete an Allowance changes for teachers and principals (EP16t) form, paycode PMA8.

We will begin processing this allowance in PP04 (pay day 26 May), backdated to the start of term two, 20 April.
Note: This processing date relates to the allowance under the PPCA - NZEI agreement, the same allowance under the PPCBU agreement is already in our system.

Thank you again for working alongside us to deliver the schools’ payroll accurately and on time.
